The U.S. Embassy in Montevideo is seeking candidates to fill one Administrative Clerk position
in the Animals and Plants Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Agency

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent participates actively in the management of the APHIS Uruguay office by performing a variety of administrative and clerical work such us assisting organizing budget information, filing correspondence, updating inventories, requesting purchases. The incumbent will be required to translate communications and documents. The incumbent will assist the Agricultural Scientist in Uruguay in contacting government counterparts, make arrangements for meetings, coordinate visits and trips. The incumbent also provides assistance to the Area Director and Administrative Assistant in the Buenos Aires APHIS office.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

NOTE: All applicants are instructed to address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each criteria.

Education: Completion of High School. At least two years of University studies with training in business, accounting or management is required.

Prior Work Experience: Two years of progressively responsible experience as a secretary or administrative assistant, including budget and or accounting.

Language Proficiency: English Level IV (fluent*) speaking and writing and Spanish Level IV (fluent*), speaking and writing, are required.

* At the fluent level an employee is required to possess a high degree of proficiency in both written and spoken English, including the ability to translate the host country language into precise and correct English, and English into the applicable foreign language.

Knowledge: Good working knowledge of office computer programs, including Excel spreadsheets, Word and Lotus Notes/Outlook is required.

Skills and abilities: Ability to multi-task and flexibility is required.


SELECTION PROCESS

U.S. Citizen EFMs and U.S. Veterans will be given preference in hiring over other equally qualified candidates in accordance with current U.S. law and State Department regulations.


ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their appointment.
4. Currently employed NORs hired under Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
