The U.S. Embassy in Montevideo is seeking people to fill one Electronic Regional Security Technician in the Engineering Services Center (ESC)

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Incumbent conducts inspections, installs, and maintains/repairs unclassified physical and technical security and life-safety equipment at U.S. Government facilities. Studies and makes recommendations for ways to improve the effectiveness of these systems. Performs these duties throughout South America, including U.S. Embassies and USAID facilities in Santiago, Buenos Aires, Asunción, and Montevideo. Provides regional assistance as needed to support Engineering Services Offices (ESO) Lima, Brasilia, and Bogotá.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE: All applicants are instructed to address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each criteria.
Education: Completion of Secondary School is required.
Prior Work Experience: At least five years of hands-on field experience in major repairs and installation of electrical and heavy-duty mechanical equipment, hydraulics, closed circuit television, alarm systems, public address systems and vehicle arrest systems.
Language Proficiency: English: Level III (Good working knowledge) speaking and writing, Spanish Level III (Good working knowledge), speaking and writing; are required.
Knowledge: Knowledge of power systems, use of all kinds of test equipment and ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment.
Technical Skills: Must be able to apply knowledge of above in the installation and maintenance of security and life-safety equipment. Must be able to read blueprints and schematic diagrams of electrical and mechanical drawings, and make adjustments and repairs. Must be able to use Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software, as well as Internet search engines.
Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to present a friendly, helpful, patient and caring impression to customers; able to be firm but tactful when explaining policy or limitations on resources.
Must be able to deal with upset or difficult clients while keeping own temper/composure; able to assure upset/angry clients that their concerns will be addressed while not promising actions/results that are inconsistent with Mission practices; able to employ a problem-solving approach to difficult issues rather than assigning blame or responding with a flat “no.” Availability to travel around the region at least half of the time.

SELECTION PROCESS
U.S. Citizen EFMs and U.S. Veterans will be given preference in hiring over other equally qualified candidates in accordance with current U.S. law and State Department regulations.
